Her family was very rich, they had lots of money and were one of the most well-known families in the capital city of their world, Ocilia which resembles western culture
Then one day a lwayer came to their world to visit his family, he heard of how rich Cheryl's family was and how Cheryl's family was very secretive; while he was on Ocilia he dug deep into where Cheryl's family got their money and uncovered an article that said one of her ancestors stole a very valuable jewel which was never recovered or seen again. Cheryl's planet didn't have any lie detectors or ways to prove that her ancestor didn't steal the jewel so her family lost all of their money and became a disgrace to everyone there.
They lived in hiding for years, from when she was 9 on; Cheryl faced constant bullying at school because everybody thought she was a thief. They stole her stuff and lied about it, saying it was their stuff but it wasn't; her parents were very upset about what was happening to their daughter, but they couldn't let her go to another school because they couldn't afford it. Many times , Cheryl would cry herself to sleep at night and comforted herself by looking up at the stars. When she discovered her powers she hid them from the people at school; she tried to, but when she got upset or angry or sad, her powers would grow out of control and finally she stole some power-blocker bracelets . Nobody ever figured out the bracelets stolen were the ones she owned, and when she heard of Alfea from a visiting student, she told her parents who didn't understand why their daughter wanted to go there at first but they reluctantly agreed to let her go
